Everybody has a past and...
Not one person grows up in the same enviornment or the same ways, however, most values and morals, and manners are taught the same way. That was the same for Arden-Julianna Owens, except something was drastically different. Unlike any other child in her small neighborhood, she was the only one with two fathers' instead of the traditional father and mother home. It's true that parents seperate, divorce, or are single parent homes, but none of them were out of the norm, they were common, while a same sex home was speratic, far and few, not even heard of, hidden, or lived in areas where it was more common. Mark, and Jamie Ownes, were the parents of Arden, who loved her unconditionally. Julianna Moore was AJ's birth mother, who had decided that she would not be in contact with the baby she bore, because it wasn't her real child, and she was only helpnig out two of her friends. Mark and Jamie were slightly disappointed by the decision, but were proud and happy that they were going to be able to prove to the world they were capable of taking care, and raising a child. And they did just that.
On February 14th, 1989, at 11:45pm, a healthy, perfect tiny baby girl was born to Mark and Jamie Ownes, they named their only daughter after Mark's decessed mother, Arden, and the birth mother who they owed their lives to, making their baby Arden-Julianna Owens. They were the perfect little family. The couple brought their baby home, and couldn't help but show her all the love, and effection they possibly could, this was the baby that the pair of them had wanted for the past five years, and she was finally here. Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, their baby girl was growing at a rapid pace, and to remember all her firsts, Mark had bought a video camera, and recorded many memorable moments with the camera. Arden-Julianna was their world, in their eyes she could do no wrong or make any mistakes. Months turned into years, the couple were officially married under the law of Massachusetts, and celebrated with a large party with all their friends, family, and relatives, when this happened Arden-Julianna, was just a bright eyed, three year old, who had many questions, and wanted to know everything. She was a late speaker, so all her words were always confused for something else, but her parents understood her. Mark, and Jamie enrolled Arden-Julianna into a private school when she was five years old, and from then on she became an even more talkative, and happy little girl.
In school, Arden-Julianna was quickly shortened to AJ, and has gone by that name since, and as she grew up she began to realize that her family wasn't like everyone elses. At school productions, like Christmas concerts, or parent-teacher nights, she noticed that everyone else had a mother, and a father. She was the only one who had two fathers, it sparked the girls curiosity, and began to avidly ask about her mother, both Mark and Jamie were confused as to what to tell their little girl, but explained to her many times, that they loved each other, and they loved her, she did not need a mommy when she had both of her daddys, and she accepted it. AJ continued to grow, she went from a little girl, to a pre-teen in almost a blink of an eye, and was begining to blossom. Jamie, the more of the "motherly" figure, took charge of explaining the things that were happening to AJ's body when the changes started happening. Mark, and Jamie were sad to see their little baby growing up, but they had enjoyed every minute of raising her. When AJ turned fourteen, Mark was given a job offer in New York City, Jamie was against the idea from the start, but he knew Mark wanted this, and like a good husband, he packed up his family and they moved to New York City, New York.
New York City, it wasn't the place that Jamie or Mark had imagined they would be living in, or even raising their daughter in, but it had to be done. The family no longer lived in their little house, but in a luxurious pent house, provided by the lawfirm that Mark was taking a position with. At first things were calm, peaceful, nothing could go wrong, AJ went to another private school, Marj went to work, and Jamie worked on his artwork. However, within the year, everything began to go down hill, starting with Mark. The new job brought about new people, and new men, which lead to him cheating on his husband countless of times, and then Jamie, he wasn't stupid and knew what was going on with his husband, but he couldn't stop what was happening, and he couldn't leave his husband or his baby, and became an avid alcoholic, and it ended with AJ, she saw everything, she lived on the outskirts of her parents breakdowns, offering her advice to each of them, and tried to go about her life as she normally would. AJ saw Jamie cry, drunk in their kitchen, she watched Mark come and go on business trips, and late nights, and AJ was left to fend for herself while her parents experienced downfalls, that would only lead to harder times.
Mark continued to be permiscuous, and Jamie was now not only drinking at home, but was going out to bars where he too was picking up men, bringing them home, and having his way with them. Neither of the parents saw each other more than almost ten hours a week, and it was always a fight. AJ was never far behind, she was now fifteen, her parents never stopped screaming at each other, one accusing the other of something else, until one day, AJ couldn't keep quiet anymore, in the midst of one of their infamous screaming matches, AJ threw herself into the fire, she told them they were both terrible parents, and terrible spouces, putting the image of the gay family portrait to shame. That night, AJ left the pent house, and stayed with her friends and wouldn't go home until things improved. Things did not improve, but she did end up back in the home, she wouldn't look or speak to either of her parents, how could she when nothing she said even mattered? And if they were going to have a good time she was too, AJ began stealing money from Mark, and Jamie in order to buy drugs, it didn't matter what it was she was willing to try anything, she started skipping school, and taking the alcohol that was around the house. On nights when neither of her parents were home she would throw parties for herself, and her friends. One night, a party went too far, and one thing lead to another and AJ had been raped, drugged, and left to deal with the aftermath alone, this party, was not held in her home. She didn't know how to tell her father's and didn't bother tell them until...until she found herself constantly throwing up at random points of the day, and not getting her monthly gift for three months straight. AJ was pregnant with a baby that she didn't want, and with a baby that she concieved from rape.
It was a quiet day when she broke the news to her parents, the house was quiet there was no fighting, things were almost improved by the time she had decided to tell them the news. Somehow she got both men into one room without them fighting, and told them. Both were in shock and appauled, Jamie couldn't help but cry when she told them what had happened to her, and hold his girl close. Mark was infuriated, he didn't even know what to say. In the end, AJ kept the child, and had her son, on Mark's birthday. AJ knows who the father is, she knows who raped her, but she can't bring herself to even be in the same place as the man. And because AJ was so young, only fifteen when she gave birth, Jamie and Mark got their acts together, went to counceling, and have been helping AJ raise her son. Today, AJ is twenty years old, and her son, Alexander is four. Mark and Jamie, are often kept raising the child because they know that AJ herself has a lot of growing up to do herself. After she had her son, she cleaned up her act, and stayed away from drugs, however every now and again she drinks. AJ graduated from high school with high honors, and enrolled in a Community College. She has an internship with a local photographer in the city, and loves her life, her son, and her parents.
